THE STUDIO

EMMANUELLE , FOUNDER AND CREATOR

I'm Emmanuelle, the founder and nose of martine & colette.

I have been fascinated by scents since I was a child, and I love the imprint they leave on you, all at once discreet and exuberant. I love how they propel us so strongly towards hidden memories, how they comfort, mask and impose themselves, how they guide us.

So I decided to devote my life's work to them: martine and colette.

The martine & colette perfume laboratory was born out of my three passions: perfume, people and travel.

A perfume is born from the dialogue between scented notes and comes to meet the person who smells it. It leaves a lifelong impression.

My life in France, Israel and Latin America, in the melting pot of cultures, traditions, beliefs and peoples, will keep me faithful to what is my life's passion: making perfumes.

I decided to follow in the footsteps of the greatest perfumers by studying at the ISIPCA perfumery school in Versailles, where I immersed myself for the first time in the wonderful world of perfume raw materials.

My mentors taught me how to smell them, memorize them,  and combine them...

After this endless apprenticeship, it became obvious that the combinations were also infinite. EVERYTHING can be translated into fragrances. I also understand that if a lifetime isn't enough to master everything, I still want to spend mine trying !

When I finished my perfumery studies, I joined IFF, first in creation, and then in perfume evaluation, where I was taught by the great Masters. As an evaluator at IFF's creation house in Sao Paulo, Brazil, I immerse myself in the scents of the market, the smell of the tropical rain and flowers, and the old newspaper stalls. I feed off smiles, samba and instrument wood.

In a hurry to bottle everything, to translate these stories, these dreams, and your projects into fragrances, I came back to Paris and founded martine & colette.

THE FINE MATERIALS

To create the right fragrance, the quality of the raw materials is essential, which is why I choose them meticulously and without compromise.

My palette is made up of both natural and synthetic materials. The natural materials are extracted from flowers, leaves, resins and roots, while the synthetic materials are derived from chemical processes obtained in laboratories, conferring with great precision the expected finesse, comfort and long-lasting scent.

Defying common sense, natural ingredients are not always used in " environmentally responsible " production: it takes 8,000 jasmine flowers to produce 1KG of jasmine flowers, from which we obtain only around 500G of the absolute of jasmine.  As for iris, it takes at least 6 years of processing to extract the noble powder from its rhizomes. And while lavender and mimosa are extracted in Grasse, other materials such as patchouli, vetiver and certain qualities of rose come from all over the globe.

I have therefore chosen to work with the laboratories of the Grasse region, which I know are responsible for the safe use and sourcing of natural, ethical and fully traceable materials.

In my laboratory, the alcohol is organic, the candle wax comes from soya, and the laboratory laboratory glassware also comes from a Grasse factory, ensuring the know-how of the haute parfumerie industry.

OUR FOUR-HANDS

For most people, the creation of a fragrance is a matter of mystery and enchantment...

Sometimes the fragrance is abstract, sometimes the ingredients are easy to identify.

When you come to visit me in the studio, we create together: you lend me your stories, your words, your dreams; I lend you my ears, my interpretation and, of course, my nose.

You give me the key, and I'll suggest notes that we can tune together to create a symphony.

You can unravel the mysteries, smell the materials, find out where they come from and ask all your questions about the perfume creation process.

We'll do our very best to put the right words to the scents, to describe them with precision and lucidity.

From the genesis of creation to the moment our perfume meets the outside world, we'll share the various stages leading to the final result, without forgetting the ethical and regulatory aspects.

The perfumery I cherish is a perfumery of dialogue, sharing and transmission.
